20 Overused words you should avoid putting on your Résumé

Author: S. Gordon-Jeffery

For some time now many large companies have been using automated résumé-screening software to cut down the initial pool of job applicants, loading your résumé with meaningless buzzwords is not the smartest way to get noticed.
"Nearly everyone is guilty of using buzzwords from time to time, but professionals are evaluated increasingly on their ability to communicate," says Paul McDonald, senior executive director for professional-placement firm Robert Half.
Some of the major problems with using buzzwords, according to Mary Lorenz, a corporate communications manager at CareerBuilder, are that they have become so overused that they've lost all meaning, and they don't differentiate the job seeker from other candidates because they've become so generic.

Other, less 'jargony' words and terms should be avoided when they serve little purpose to the hiring manager. All these words do is waste their time and, as a result, you lose out on the few precious seconds a recruiter spends scanning your résumé.
Instead, recruiters recommend that job seekers focus on their accomplishments, using word that demonstrate (show not tell) how they can be beneficial to the potential employer.
Avoiding overused terms can help job seekers convey their message and stand out from the crowd.
For your consideration here are 20 'buzzwords' you should avoid using:
1. 'Best of my ability'
2. 'Results-driven'
3. 'Seasoned'
4. 'Highly qualified'
5. 'Responsible for'
6. 'Jovial'
7. 'Ambitious'
8. 'Team player'
9. 'Microsoft Word'
10.'Dynamic'

11.'Hard worker'
12.'Punctual'
13.'People person'
14.'Hit the ground running'
15.'My objective ...'
16.'Successfully'
17.'Innovative'
18.'Extracurricular activities'
19.'Honest'
20. 'Fast learner'
